He can be heard with 1920’s jazz orchestra, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks on TV’s “Boardwalk Empire” for 5 seasons, and on the Grammy-winning soundtrack album for the show; Peter performs weekly at Birdland Jazz Club with the Nighthawks on Monday nights.
DMITRI KOLESNIK
BASS
Dmitri Kolesnik, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, was introduced to jazz by his father, a pianist, who nurtured his love for music through concerts and classic records. Initially pursuing engineering, Kolesnik switched to music, earning a Bachelor’s from Mussorgsky College, where he later became a professor and gained recognition as ‘Discovery of the Year’ in the Jazz Poll. He collaborated with top Russian musicians David Goloshchekin and Igor Butman.
In 1991, Kolesnik moved to New York, receiving a City College scholarship to study with his idol, Ron Carter, and earning a Master’s in 1996. Carter enlisted him to compile the Ron Carter Collection, later published by Hal Leonard. Kolesnik’s own songbook was released by Heights Music International.
Over three decades, Kolesnik has built a strong reputation in the NYC jazz scene, performing with legends like Benny Golson, Stanley Jordan, and Randy Brecker. He was a longtime member of the Anthony Wonsey Trio and had a residency at Carlyle’s Bemelmans Bar with the Chris Gillespie Trio.
